Norwich City midfielder Ebou Adams has joined League One side Shrewsbury Town on loan until January.

Adams was a key player for City’s under-23s last season and that saw the one-year option in his contract triggered in April, extending his stay until the summer of 2018.

He now has the chance to impress with the Shrews, with Canaries academy manager Richard Money telling canaries.co.uk: “We think this is Ebou’s best opportunity to get games under his belt in senior football until January. It’s a really good loan – Shrewsbury are a good club and Paul Hurst is a good manager and someone who I know really well.

“We know they’ll look after him in the way we’d want them to, and we felt this was too good an opportunity to turn down.”

The 21-year-old played three games on loan at National League side Braintree during last season but returned to Carrow Road, scoring six in 29 games for the U23s in total in the last campaign.

Shrewsbury boss Hurst is pleased to secure the signing, with Adams to officially join the Shropshire side on July 1.

“I like him because he’s got that drive, you can see it in him, he’s stood out for me when I have seen him and he wants to fight and scrap, as well as play,” he told his club’s website.

“He’s very tenacious, he puts his foot in, he gets up and down and he covers the pitch well.

“I like the fact that he’s a fighter and I’m looking forward to working with him.”

He added: “I’ve been speaking with Neil Adams (loans manager) from Norwich and they’ve been very helpful, but now he’s got to look after himself and he’ll get the support from us.

“If you’re at Norwich then you’re not going to be poor on the ball but I think that is an area that they want to try and improve.”

Adams signed an 18-month contract when he was signed by Norwich on transfer deadline day in January 2016, for an undisclosed fee from National League South side Dartford, completing a ‘dream’ move which meant he was able to stop working at a TGI Friday’s restaurant.

The midfielder said: “I’m pleased to be here, to sign for a club that are interested in me and I’m looking forward to going as far as possible.

“He (Hurst) called me a week after I finished off with Norwich for the summer, and I was pleased, I was so happy for him to have interest in me.

“He said he’s been watching me for quite a while, looking at how I play and how I can add to Shrewsbury and try to boost them into a better position.”
