Gary Setchell says a good run in the FA Vase could keep Wisbech Town’s season alive.
The Fenmen travel to lower-level Bourne Town in the second qualifying round and boss Setchell believes the competition could be Wisbech’s saving grace after an inconsistent start to their UCL Premier Division season.
“It’s a competition we want to go as deep as we can in,” he said. “It’s one that keeps your season alive. We’re playing catch-up in the league but if we can keep it alive in the Vase then that will be great.”
Wisbech recorded their second straight league win last Saturday with a narrow 1-0 success over Rothwell Corinthians.
Josh Ford missed a fifth-minute penalty but Kieran Hamilton struck in the second period to give Setchell his second win as boss and the new Fenmen chief said it was important for his side to have taken all three points from a difficult fixture.
He said: “For us at the minute it’s not all about performances, it’s about the three points.”
