Repentant Josh Murphy has no fears Norwich City’s “machines” will be back in top form come their two big Carrow Road assignments.

Promotion hopefuls Derby visit on Saturday before Championship leaders Wolves follow suit three days later – all after Sunday’s derby win at Ipswich and 120 minutes of intensive work in agonising extra-time defeat at Arsenal in midweek.

Fortunately City head coach Daniel Farke has done a good job of conditioning his troops since taking charge ahead of pre-season.

“I’d say everyone in this team is a machine now,” said Murphy, with a smile on his face. “If you look at our stats compared to last season, we’re covering a lot more distance and we’re running a lot faster, and you can just tell that on the pitch.

“We’ve got a lot of strong players here and we’ve got a lot of togetherness where we don’t want to lose, so everyone is going to run that extra 10pc for each other and I think that’s why we’ve been doing so well.

“Recovery is going to be tough because a lot of them are playing 90 minutes, 90, 90, 120 – so it’s just about the best preparation, eating the right things, sleeping well, all the normal stuff. But come Saturday, as soon as the adrenaline kicks in and we kick off at 3pm, I think everyone’s going to be fine.”

That will hopefully include Murphy, who took to the field on Tuesday night with his own list of ailments.

“Broken toe, tonsillitis – but I’m a machine now, so I just get on it with,” Murphy smiled once more.

“I’m getting there so hopefully I’ll be available for Saturday. I just want to be out there with the team and everyone wants to be playing. You can see how well we’re doing at the moment, everyone’s itching to play and I’m no different.”

Murphy admitted it hasn’t been the easiest time, with a public admonishment from Farke and being dropped following his “unprofessional preparation” ahead of the trip to the Riverside Stadium last month.

“It was all dealt with fine,” added Murphy. “I just want to put it behind me. I had a tough month but Arsenal was my second game since that and I think I showed and proved that it’s all behind me and it’s all done, and I’m just ready to kick on and take everything to the next level.

“The manager will do everything for his players and we’ll do everything for him. So I think it was a mistake that I made, the same with Nelson (Oliveira at Fulham). But you can see the reaction with everyone. Everyone is going in the right direction and everyone is pulling together.

“There might be a couple of blips but as long as we stay on the right path, then everything’s fine. So I think you’ve seen now that I’m back. I’m back.”
