Norwich City want Sheffield Wednesday striker Jordan Rhodes - but only if the price is right.

The Owls' striker proved a huge hit at Carrow Road during a season long loan stint, despite limited game time behind the prolific Teemu Pukki.

Daniel Farke is a huge fan of the popular forward, who became a cult figure for Canaries' fans during an unforgettable Championship title-winning season.

City had a buy option inserted in the original loan deal but are believed to favour thrashing out a reduced fee as Rhodes approaches the final 12 months of his current Hillsborough contract.

The Scottish international is open to a permanent move, with his young family happily settled in Norfolk. Sporting director Stuart Webber revealed last season Rhodes had taken a financial hit to push through the original deal.

Reports in Sheffield over the weekend suggested City paid £1m to entice Rhodes to Carrow Road on loan, with another six figure sum triggered by the club's promotion triumph.

The striker scored vital goals to earn league points against the likes of Aston Villa, Millwall and West Brom but was largely restricted to cameos from the bench in the majority of his 36 appearances.

City will target attacking reinforcements this summer, ahead of a return to the Premier League, as they look to ease the burden and provide some genuine competition for Norwich's player-of-the-year Pukki.

Owls' boss Steve Bruce hinted he would be prepared to sanction Rhodes' exit when he brought Sheffield Wednesday to Carrow Road last month.

"We have six strikers, if Jordan comes back in the summer we have seven. That's not healthy," he said, with Bruce strongly linked with a swoop for Wigan's Nick Powell while ex-City forward Gary Hooper is free to leave when his contract expires next month. "We have to make big decisions, and I am sure Jordan's situation will be brought into the equation as well.

"We will have to be led by Norwich to see what they have up their sleeve but I haven't asked about the deal and what it entails.

"It probably hasn't gone well, in terms of time on the pitch for Jordan.

"The minutes he has played has obviously been limited since they had a bit of a shuffle, playing one up top and one off.

"He is somebody who I have always liked as a player. You look at his goalscoring record, it's second to none."
