Traders on Fakenham’s Thursday market will be joined on August 8 by a high street bank, hoping to make people aware of scams and frauds online.

Staff from Barclays bank will be stepping out from 9.30am to talk to people about the risks of rogue traders and fraudsters, advising on how to do online banking safely.

Staff there will be taling to the public and handing out leaflets to help people understand the signs of a crime. Dan Andrews of the Fakenham branch said: "Fraudsters can try to trick people in many different ways, at a cash machine, by email, text, phone or online often posing as somebody from a trusted organisation.

"Our fraud awareness events can help people from becoming a victim of fraud and give them the opportunity to ask questions and gain an understanding of the importance of keeping safe from the range of scams in existence.

"We work closely with the police and Trading Standards, and our branch colleagues continue to be vigilant and will often question customers if they feel they could be pressured into asking to withdraw large sums of money, particularly among the elderly."
