Leicester City and England midfielder James Maddison has revealed how special his bond is with Norwich City fans ahead of a first reunion.

The Canaries face a daunting task on Saturday against a Foxes' side who have won eight Premier League games on the bounce to soar into second behind Liverpool.

Maddison left Carrow Road for a record fee in 2018, but City's former player-of-the-year retains a huge affection for his old club.

"Norwich is the first result I check every week. I feel more like a supporter than an ex-player," he said. "I want Norwich to win every single week, just two weekends when they don't. This is one of them. I've got to treat it as any other game.

"It's not any other game, it's a special game for me. I'm not going to say different because Norwich is a club where I've got so many great memories from my time there.

"I met so many great people, that period of my life was when I felt like I was on top of the world. Everything about my life I just loved, from living in Norwich, the people, the fans. That's why I have a soft spot because that's how they made me feel.

"I am not lying when I say that. I don't say that about every club I have been at. It has to be business as usual. I'll go in with the same mindset as I have every other game I have played for Leicester City, and that's to win the game and play the best I can for my team."

Maddison has never looked back since a breakout season in the Championship sealed a Premier League move. The 23-year-old made his England debut last month in a European Championship qualifying rout of Montenegro.

"What a fantastic moment, at Wembley, the scoreline, the occasion with it being the 1,000th international game for the country. Everything about it was perfect and I felt really proud of myself, my family were so proud of me and obviously we're flying in the league. Long may it continue," he said. "I always gave my all for Norwich. I've never had so many nice messages from fans after leaving a club.

"Normally when your top goalscorer or main player leaves they are saying, 'stay one more year or sign a new deal'.

"But it was all, 'go and do your thing in the Premier League' and even now on social media or whenever I go back to Norwich it's all good positive things and they're all happy for me to be doing well in the Premier League, which you can't underestimate. I am grateful for that."
