The Premier League has announced just six of 748 coronavirus tests completed so far have returned positive results, however it’s understood that none of those six is from Norwich City.

The Premier League has released a statement with total results returned so far but is unable to provide the names of clubs or players affected for confidentiality reasons.

Just 0.8pc of tests carried out so far have proved positive, with six positive tests out of a total of 748 returned from three clubs, as top-flight teams start returning to training in small groups as part of Step One of the league’s Return to Training Protocol - which was voted through on Monday.

Canaries players are expected to step up their training regimes during this week, as testing continues and the Lotus Training Centre at Colney starts to get busier, although with strict social distance and hygiene rules in place.

A statement released this afternoon reads: “The Premier League can today confirm that, on Sunday 17 May and Monday 18 May, 748 players and club staff were tested for COVID-19.

“Of these, six have tested positive from three clubs. Players or club staff who have tested positive will now self-isolate for a period of seven days.

“The Premier League is providing this aggregated information for the purposes of competition integrity and oversight.

“No specific details as to clubs or individuals will be provided by the Premier League due to legal and operational requirements.”

Team-mates and staff at clubs where there are positive tests are not all required to enter quarantine, due to the strict social distancing guidelines still in place preventing people mixing at this stage of football’s Project Restart plans.

Step One of the Return to Training Protocol is for non-contact sessions, with groups of up to five players able to train together using equipment which has been thoroughly disinfected, for around 75 minutes.

Players have to arrive in kit, park their cars with a minimum of three spaces between them and then return home straight after their session, with canteen and changing facilities not open.

Step Two is expected to be voted on next week, as the Premier League works towards a safe return to full-contact training at the end of the month, ahead of a potential resumption of the season on June 12.
