Daniel Farke insists Norwich City are working hard to end their goal drought but also points out that statistics do not tell the whole story.

The Canaries will equal a club record if they fail to score at Watford on Tuesday and stretch their barren streak to six league matches without a goal, following a 1-0 home loss to Brighton on Saturday.

City have lost all four of their games since the Premier League campaign resumed behind closed doors, managing just five shots on target during those defeats - leaving them on the verge of an immediate return to the Championship.

“For us it’s not as easy to create as many chances as a team who are dominating the games, we also have to make sure that against the ball we are unbelievably solid and make the lives of the opponent difficult,” City’s head coach explained.

“Then we also speak about ‘come on, let’s be more brave, not play too complicated in front of the opponent’s box’ and let’s be there with shots and also with more confidence.

“Sometimes the statistics, for example the header of Adam Idah that hit the post doesn’t count as a shot on target and also Ben Godfrey’s shot which hit the post (at Arsenal) doesn’t count, or Onel Hernandez (against Everton).

“Or for example when Emi Buendia is in a one-against-one situation like in the last home game, that does count as a shot on goal - so you can’t always just take the shots on goal as if it was a chance or not.”

Brighton had eight shots and two on target on Saturday, compared to 12 for Norwich and one on target, which was a tame effort from striker Josip Drmic.

Farke continued: “When I compared our game with Brighton, let’s be honest, they had more or less just this one chance and they were able to score.

“When I compare to our situation in the first half, we had six or seven situations where we pushed but we were not able to be there with a finish on goal. To be more focused, more precise and more greedy, to be that convinced that we score in this situation - to bring the ball on the goal to at least give us a chance to score.

“This is also a topic in that we need to add this quality in order to score more goals to win more games, that’s for sure.”
