It’s an outdoor adventure game which takes place in the Norfolk countryside which requires teamwork, thought and patience - but is a whole lot of fun.
To solve Pan’s Problem, players have 60 minutes to find five mystical ingredients by solving problems to make a potion before the trolls come back to Hockwold Hollow.
The ingredients have been lost in the hollow by Pan, a half goat-God, who was trying to make a troll repelling potion to stop them attacking the hollow’s goats but he has become distracted by local wood nymphs.
The idea for the game was inspired by husband wife Dave and Sharon Southwell who visited Cryptic Escape in Norwich and decided it would be nice to create an outdoor adventure game.
They have turned the land at the back of their garden in Hockham cum Wilton, which includes a hollow, into the game.
Mr Southwell, who has named the business Rustic Riddles, said: “The idea was initially my wife’s. We said there weren’t many other things like this around. It is something she has done and she has spent hours and hours working out the puzzles and designing them.”
Mr Southwell, who also runs Zone For Learning, which provides vocational education for children and young people, has spent the past two to three months building the puzzles.
As well as it being open for families to enjoy spending time with each other, Mr Southwell hopes to have school groups visit and businesses using it for team bonding sessions.
“It has developed and has got better and better,” he said. “Sharon has been up until 2am some mornings working on some of the puzzles. Some of them are going to be challenging.
“We didn’t want anything high-tech. We wanted something which was practicable. We wanted people to go away having had a thought provoking experience.”
Testers will be taking on Pan’s Problem in the next couple of weeks before it opens to the public at the end of June.
The game and puzzles will be changed every so often to offer a new challenge.
If the team manage to find all of the ingredients in the time limit, they can see Hockwold Hollow’s ten friendly goats moved to safety.
