Firefighters were sent back to their stations after an apparent roof fire turned out to be steam from an immersion heater.

Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service was called at 10.30am this morning following reports of a blaze in the roof of a property on Trinity Street in Bungay.

One vehicle was mobilised from Beccles Fire Station, while Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service also sent five crews - including one from as far away as Earlham and an aerial ladder platform from Great Yarmouth.

However, multiple crews were stood down while en route as it transpired that the apparent smoke coming from the roof of the property was in fact steam from an immersion heater.

The fire service considered the incident to be under control at 10.51am.
