A 24 hour sports marathon at East Norfolk Sixth Form College has helped raise more than £1,300 for Sports Relief.
The Gorleston held a 24 hour sport-a-thon organised by the Sports staff with support from the Sports Council on March 23.
The event got underway with a five a-side football tournament with more than 10 teams taking part. There then followed a netball tournament where the staff team went up against the college netball team in an intense game.
Altogether there were 20 different sports/activities that students got involved in throughout the day and night including dodgeball, gymnastics, yoga, basketball, badminton and volleyball.
Some of the athletes took the opportunity to receive a sports massage for a small donation from Year 2 Sport Science students.
More than 60 students tokk part during the day and 35 of those took part in the whole 24 hour event.
One student, Leanne Hall said: “The event was amazing, we all had a lot of fun. The best part was beating my teacher in the badminton tournament.”
Overall, the money raised to date stands at £1385, with more sponsorship still to come in.
Sam Clarke, Sport Development Officer and Physical Activity Instructor said: “It was great to see so many people getting involved in sport and also seeing some of our sports students using this event as part of their evidence for a unit they are completing on their course.
“As we had a badminton and football tournament that was organised and run by the students for their unit so they were being graded on their efforts throughout the event. We have raised a lot of money for Sport Relief which is brilliant. Well done to everyone who got involved and thank you to everyone who sponsored us.”
