Just one year after losing his leg in a scooter accident Jordan Greenwood is preparing to climb Mount Snowdon to raise money for an amputee charity.
The determined 24-year-old from Thetford said he wanted to take on the challenge to inspire others in his situation.
“I just want to prove to people that anything is possible and you can do anything you want to do,” he said. “I am more determined now than before when I had two legs.
“I can ride a bike. The only thing I cannot do is run, but in a couple of weeks I might well be able to run.”
On May 30 Mr Greenwood, and his friend Derek Nicoll, will join a group of more than 20 people, amputees and their friends, to climb the mountain which stands at 1,085m.
They will be raising money for Steel Bones which helps to create a support network for the amputee community.
On May 18 last year, the former haulage worker’s scooter was involved in a collision with a car outside the Thetford Garden Centre.
After having his leg amputated below the knee, he spent weeks at the amputee rehabilitation service at Norwich’s Colman Hospital. But within just three months, Mr Greenwood was already walking on his prosthetic limb.
He has suffered a setback in his training, surgery in February to help correct a limp has meant he has only been walking again for the past four weeks.
However he said he will not let it stop him.
“I will give it a go,” he said. “If I cannot walk for one month after, well I have done it haven’t I. I climbed Snowdon back in 2012. It is a bit different now but it is achievable.”
The crash happened just one day before Mr Greenwood was due to leave for a new life in Canada. Although it has meant he can no longer move there, he has a new focus to help others like himself through becoming a personal trainer.
Clarisse Arnold has praised her boyfriend’s spirit and attitude.
She said: “I have got no words for it. Every achievement he makes, it is nice to be at his side to see it.”
She added: “I hope to get up to the top of Snowdon to be there when he makes it.”
Metcalfe, Copeman and Pettefar Solicitors sponsored Mr Greenwood £250 to enable him to take part in the climb.
