Work to repair the water mains which destroyed part of a road in a Norfolk town have been completed, but the road will stay shut until tomorrow at the earliest.

Two water mains burst on Caister Road in Great Yarmouth on Wednesday and have closed part of the road since.

Essex and Suffolk Water, who manage the town’s water system, have completed the work on the mains but the road remains closed as the surface repairs continue.

A spokesman for the company said: “Repairs to the two water main bursts on Caister Road, Gt Yarmouth have now been completed, and our teams are now hard at work on reinstating the carriageway at these two locations.

“Good progress has been made on the repair at the junction with Barnard Crescent and Jellicoe Road, but we need the new surface to cool enough for it to be safe for traffic.

“This is taking longer than normal due to the exceptionally high temperatures, but our aim is for the road to be fully open to traffic early on Saturday morning.

“We apologise again for the disruption, and thank everyone for their patience at this time”
