An arrest warrant has been issued for a man allegedly involved in a snatch and grab at a Southwold jeweller’s during which he is said to have stolen stock valued at £8,700.
David Tranter, of Crown Road, Great Yarmouth, is alleged to have been one of two people involved in the raid and was due to appear before Ipswich magistrates today, but failed to do so.
The 45-year-old is accused of shoplifting from The Amber Shop in Market Shop on September 30 last year.
The court was told 26 items of jewellery were taken.
Requesting a bench warrant to be issued prosecutor Colette Harper said: “He isn’t here. The value of the shoplifting we are dealing with is £8,702.
“Bearing in mind the high value I would ask for a warrant no bail.”
The application was granted.
During the incident bangles, necklaces, rings and other valuable items were taken.
A woman was said to have distracted staff while a man opened a display cabinet and swept an entire shelf of jewellery into his pockets, before both left the store.
