The A47 Thorney bypass is now fully open following a car fire.

Cambridgeshire Fire & Rescue, Fenland Police, Beds, Cambs & Herts Roads Policing Unit and Highways England worked together to get the road re-opened within two hours.

The vehicle has been recovered.

A police spokesman said: “Officers came across the fire at about 12.22pm.

“No one was in the vehicle but police have spoken to the driver.

“A full road closure was needed due to smoke.

“The Highways Agency have been called because the road and barrier are damaged.”

Fenland Police tweeted at around 1pm: “Car fire now under control on the #A47 Thorney Bypass.”
