Paul Lambert will miss Ipswich Town’s match against Gillingham this evening after former Norwich City coach Matt Gill tested positive for coronavirus.
City’s ex-boss is now awaiting the results of his own test and is self-isolting at home, although he was due to serve a touchline ban after his ‘abusive and insulting’ comments aimed at the referee following Town’s defeat on Saturday.
Gill was sent home prior to the Tractor Boys fixture against Lincoln City and has subsequently returned a positive test. Striker Kayden Jackson tested positive earlier this month but has now completed his period away from the group.
“Paul is following the guidelines and it’s a precautionary measure until the result of his test comes through,” Town’s general manager of football operations, Lee O’Neil told EADT.
“Matt showed symptoms Saturday morning and was immediately sent home.”
Gill crossed the divide to join Town after Lambert’s appointment was confirmed in 2018 and Town had started the season strong although have suffered back-to-back defeats against Doncaster Rovers and the Imps.
Assistant manager Stuart Taylor will lead the side for this evening’s game against Gillingham at Portman Road.
