A mother whose “smile could light up any room” has been lovingly remembered following her sudden death.

Jennifer Potter died after being hit by a car on the A143 at Ditchingham on October 2.

The 61-year-old mother-of-two was born in Bungay and was a grandmother-of-seven.

In a statement on behalf of the family, her daughter Jasmine Smith said: “There are no words to describe how totally heartbroken we are.

“She was the life and soul and her smile could light up any room.

“She is everything and I can’t imagine our lives without her.

“She will stay in our hearts forever.

“Rest in peace mum, you will always be the brightest star in the sky.”

An inquest into Mrs Potter’s death was opened at Norfolk Coroner’s Court on Tuesday, October 13 by Jacqueline Lake, senior coroner for Norfolk.

Mrs Lake said the medical cause of death was multiple injuries due to a road traffic collision and adjourned the inquest to March 9, 2021.

Emergency services were called to the road at 8.30pm following reports a white Toyota Yaris had been involved in a collision with a pedestrian near to the junction of Old Yarmouth Road.

The road was closed until the early hours of the following morning while police continued investigations into the circumstances of the collision.

Officials expressed sorrow at the death of Mrs Potter, which has shocked the communities of Ditchingham and Bungay.

The mayor of Bungay, Bob Prior, offered his “sincere condolences” to the family and all who knew the woman, while Brendon Bernard, ward councillor for Ditchingham and Earsham on South Norfolk District Council, said: “My thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of this lady.”

Posting on Facebook, other residents said their thoughts were with the ladies family as they offered condolences at “this very sad time”.

Police are keen to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the collision, or who has information concerning the driving manner of the Toyota Yaris prior to the incident.
