Former Norwich City star Peter Mendham, who was jailed for seven-and-a-half years for stabbing his former girlfriend, is set to go to the Court of Appeal, it has been revealed.
Mendham, 46, who played more than 260 games for the Canaries between 1976 and 1987, was jailed in February after pleading guilty to wounding with intent.
He stabbed Charlotte Hyam, 39, after becoming obsessed with her, Norwich Crown Court heard.
Ms Hyam suffered life-threatening injuries and lost a kidney after the attack at Mendham's home at Whitlingham Lane, Trowse, on October 18 last year.
Mendham's legal team have been told that his appeal against the length of his sentence will be heard in London.
Simon Nicholls, of Belmore's solicitors, said: “Peter Mendham has never shied away from the fact that what he did was wrong and feels very responsible and shamed by what he did.
“He always accepted a custodial sentence would be inevitable and of some length. I'm sure that for anybody serving a custodial sentence any reduction would be welcome.”
