A campaign to bring back leading pop acts like Girls Aloud back to Yarmouth's seafront has received a boost after more than 1000 people signed an internet petition.

A campaign to bring back leading pop acts back to Yarmouth's seafront has received a boost after more than a thousand people signed an internet petition.

It is now hoped that the growing demand from music fans to restore the Pop Beach event to the resort will once again see top stars such as Girls Aloud and Blue entertain thousands of people on the town's central beach.

Pop Beach was held in Yarmouth in 2003 and 2004 but has moved to Weston-Super-Mare and been re-branded as T4 on the Beach, which is shown on Channel Four.

Two weeks ago the EDP featured a plea from the organiser of the on-line campaign, James Stubbins, who wanted as many people as possible to sign up to his crusade to bring the music show back to Norfolk.

Since the story was published more than 1,200 people have put their name on the petition, which now has about 1,800 names.

Mr Stubbins, 22, from Thetford, said: “People were all disappointed that the show moved in the first place and everybody would like to see the show return.

“Getting many more names in a short amount of time means there is a huge demand for Pop Beach to come back to Yarmouth.”

The organisers of the T4 on the Beach have now said they would raise the issue of moving the show with bosses at Channel Four.
