20-year-old in roundabout crash latest victim of NDR nightmare

Liam Page, a telecoms engineer from Rosemary Road, Sprowston, was driving home from a swimming session at 11pm on Sunday night between Rackheath and Sprowston when he hit a wooden post that had been lying in the middle of the Wroxham Road/ NDR (A1270) roundabout.

His Mazda skidded around the roundabout having hit the debris and careered off the road through two signs, one of which was permenant.

The damage to the left-hand side of the car as a result of the crash, which included a collapsed front wheel and a virtually destroyed rear wheel arch, meant that the car had to be written off.

He was lucky he had his brother and his brother's girlfriend driving directly behind him to help out after the crash but he believes more needs to be done to make the roads on and connecting to the Broadland Northway safer.

The crash means he now cannot get to work and he said: 'This needs to be sorted, otherwise someone is going to end up killing themselves.'

Liam collected and removed other debris on the road, including the splintered remains of a car wing mirror and what appears to be a front bumper grill.

'That road is always unsafe - someone nearly crashed into the person who was picking me up after the crash.'

Unsurprisingly, two days after his accident, the driving instructor who taught Liam, Martin Wright, spoke to the EDP about the dangers posed by the roundabouts on the Broadland Northway.

Mr Wright said that he regularly sees drivers cutting across lanes on the £205m Broadland Northway's roundabouts and believed the design is confusing motorists.

He also noted that cars had mounted roundabout kerbs so often that signs and kerbs were being fixed to the ground.

Mr Page said that Mr Wright was a 'brilliant' instructor, and that he is so well regarded he had to wait months to get booked in for driving lessons.

On Thursday morning, the EDP revealed more dangerous driving in shocking dash cam footage that showed a car and a lorry almost colliding with each other on a NDR roundabout.
