After the last two years' white-wash, the diversity in the nominations for this year's Oscars was always going to be interesting.

This year is a record breaker, with seven non-white actors being nominated (tying with 2007's record), including six black actors – which is a new record.

Iranian director Asghar Farhadi, whose film The Salesman has been nominated for best foreign-language movie, will not attend the Oscar ceremony due to Trump's visa ban on seven muslim-majority countries.

He stated even if an exception was made to him he still would not attend.

Now onto my predictions.

La La Land swept up the Golden Globes almost single-handedly. I wonder if the Academy Awards will go in the same direction?

It's difficult to bet against La La Land for Best Picture, as it is the clear favourite. I do however hope that Moonlight will win this and cause an upset.

If Emma Stone (La La Land) doesn't win Best Actress I will be surprised.

Only Denzel Washington (Fences) will come close to the favourite for Best Actor, but Casey Affleck (Manchester By The Sea) has to win this.

Mahershala Ali (Moonlight) is the deserved front runner and he will most likely come out on top for Best Supporting Actor.

Michelle Williams's (Manchester By The Sea) lack of screen time may hurt her chances in the Best Supporting Actress category, and I believe Viola Davis (Fences) will take this award.

Damien Chazelle (La La Land) will surely win Best Director.

This is two-way battle but I feel like Kubo and the Two Strings will just be edged out by Zootopia for Best Animated Feature Film.
