Dower House on Costessey Park Golf Course is now four new homes - all for sale between £225,000 and £350,000.
It's a golfer's paradise - a home right on the course. In fact, the four new properties; two apartments and two cottages being formed from the original Dower House are for anyone who wants easy living with some original features in a beautiful parkland setting that's close to the city.
The owner of Costessey Park golf course is venturing into new territory with this development - originally he had intended to use the Dower House, a large period property once in the shadow of the 'Gothic fantasy,' Costessey Hall (now just ruins) for offices.
Instead, he has cleverly created one ground floor, two bedroom apartment, one first floor two bedroom apartment, one two bedroom cottage and one three bedroom cottage all with stunning south facing views of the remaining tower of Costessey Hall with private access down to Costessey Park and the River Tud.
Each property has two allocated parking spaces and a private garden area.

The Dower House forms part of a small complex of Grade II listed buildings, none of which have been developed, that previously served as part of the Costessey Hall Estate.
This estate dates to the 16th century or even earlier with a manor house believed to have been built in 1555 but it was in the mid 1800s when the large 'Downton Abbey' style hall was created for Lord Stafford Jerningham with gates, turrets and chimneys but following his death and a lack of a descendant, the estate passed into the hands of the army during the war and after this the hall fell into disrepair and was mostly demolished.

Parts were distributed around the county and many can be found in buildings all over the place so it does live on.
All that remains is the tower which the Dower House looks out towards.
The homes are indeed something different and will have private terraces and communal land made separate from the 18 hole, par-70 course which forms part of this 100 acre estate.
Each of the four properties is different but have beautiful wooden floors, original fireplaces in two of them and beams. Each has a super contemporary kitchen, all different, but all overlook the parkland and one of the properties has a large cellar.
The two cottages at each end of the Dower House each have extensions. The owner has taken about a year to get the properties to completion and in doing so, uncovered some lovely original features such as a large fan light which had been plastered over for decades.
Outside there is the original bell which would have been rung to gather people from the estate together to help in the event of an emergency such as a fire.
What makes the properties really special though is the setting - acres upon acres of mature trees and parkland and yet you are really close to the city centre and it's very easy access onto the site from the main road running through Costessey.
So, a triumph in creating something new, contemporary and desirable from an old property which was in a bad state of disrepair - and what a special place in which to live and probably gives a whole new meaning to the 19th hole.
