Yet again, the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital has proved it is worth its weight in gold, as another success story comes to light.

A year ago twins Esme and Iris left the unit, having spent 110 days building up their strength.

And for their family, this really did mark the beginning of a new life - the true meaning of Easter.

Now, the pair are thriving and to look at them you would not guess the risky and difficult start they had.

After spending so much time on the unit, it is not surprising that Josie Wilson, the twins' mum, describes the staff as 'like family'.

While this newspaper regularly holds the health service to account when things go wrong it is crucial to celebrate the successes too, and as ever the staff outshine themselves every day.
