A Thorpe St Andrew family is appealing for help from Norwich Evening News readers to help trace the owners of family photographs dating back more than 70 years.

The collection of pictures – showing weddings at City Hall and newborn babies cradled in grandparents' arms, some dating to the 1930s – were found strewn by the roadside on Monday afternoon.

Eight-year-old Edward Preston and his sister Colette, five, noticed them blown across Yarmouth Road by a passing car.

The two told their parents, Jon and Stella, who collected the pictures and contacted the newspaper about their find.

Mr Preston, 42, said: 'It seems such a shame that someone should lose these photographs.

'We hope that they can make their way back to their owner, whoever they are. I imagine that someone will be missing them.'

Mr Preston said the children had been excited at discovering the mix of colour and black-and-white pictures, in which Norwich landmarks provide a recognisable backdrop.

'It was a bit of a find for them, and now they want to find out where they came from,' he said.

One picture shows a couple and their son dressed in Sunday best heading to church, possibly St Peter Mancroft, before the area was redeveloped.

Another, of three women sitting side-by-side on a doorstep, is labelled on the reverse as Elsie and Florrie Jillings and 'Mum/Betty', while another shows a nine-year-old girl posing on Mousehold Heath in 1938.
