These stunning wildlife images have been captured by two photographers from our region who have both been recognised in a national competition.

Kyle Moore, 17, from Oakwood Road, Lowestoft, and Kevin Sawford, 46, from near Seething, won first prize in separate categories at the British Wildlife Photography Awards.

Kyle came top in the 12-18 age group, with his picture of a frog in a rain shower.

The 'bokeh' image – a photographic technique for blurring certain parts of a picture – was taken beside a pond in his garden, during spawning season in March.

'There were about 100 frogs around the pond and I lay beside the water waiting for the frog to enter the shallow area. I purposefully shot the image at night during a rain shower, so I had to wait for the right conditions – and get a bit wet,' he said.

In total, he spent two weeks on the project. To get the effect, he placed two flash guns behind the frog, and also used flash gel – a see-through colour card – to create the 'golden' effect.

He added: 'I've entered the competition now for about three or four years and have only ever managed a shortlist, so to have won my age category was brilliant.'

Kyle left Pakefield High at the age of 16. He has never taken a photography course and is self-taught.

He plans to pursue a career in wildlife photography and has already started taking bookings for 2016 for his Wild Europe talk, in which he discusses his work.

Mr Sawford has been a professional photographer for 12 years, specialising in British wildlife. Most of his images are taken in Suffolk.

He won the British Seasons category, for a series of images of roe deer. He shot three of the pictures from his car, in the area around Bury St Edmunds.

The fourth was from a public footpath near Seething.

'When I found out about the award I was extremely delighted at my achievement,' he said.

Mr Sawford runs various photography courses for children and adults.

Their images will now feature in a touring exhibition and a new book. Kyle will be awarded £500, while Mr Sawford gets a £600 voucher.
