National Curry Week is here and it's not just about eating lots of curry. Celebrating its 19th year, the notion of the weekly event is to encourage everyone to combat the poverty and suffering in South Asia. And here are some of the best local restaurants to visit this week.
• Spice Lounge (Norwich)
Selected as one of the top 50 Indian restaurants in the UK by The Independent, Spice Lounge is the only East Anglian restaurant to be featured in the competition. The restaurant offers a fantastic selection of Indian and Bangladeshi dishes. Being in Norwich since 2006 the restaurant's menu is still expanding, offering customers exciting new spices and flavours cooked by a team overseen by one of the most experienced chefs in the city.
• The Merchants of Spice (Norwich)
One of the city's most elegant Indian restaurants, it offers traditional dishes along side regional classics. If you're looking for a fancy dinner with work pals, friends or family this is the best place to go. Within a historic setting it is the perfect venue for a special occasion.
• Rose of India (Attleborough)
Rose of India offers a wide range of Indian dishes from fish to tandoori chicken to Raj Hash. Raj Hash is a fantastic duck dish, the duck is marinated in herbs and spice and then cooked in a clay oven.
• Labone Indian Cuisine (Sheringham)
This restaurant started pleasing the taste buds of Sheringham residents in 1990, and it is the oldest Indian Restaurant in north Norfolk. Many of their dishes are award-winning. To name a few, Monk Fish Bahaar, Sizzling Cappachilla and Kori Kebab Khyberi are a must try.
• The Vine Tavern (Norwich)
If you fancy something more low key, The Vine Tavern is the smallest pub in Norwich but this doesn't stop it from serving a great curry. You can enjoy a beer with your Thai curry for as little as £10.
• Spice infusion (Dereham)
This restaurant opened in 2014 making it the youngest of the lot. Despite being relatively new, Spice Infusion's chefs have over ten years of experience within the best ranking restaurants in the UK. The restaurant itself can seat up to 100 people so there is always room to taste their delicious dishes which are guaranteed as affordable by the restaurants owners.
• A taste of India (Kings Lynn)
This is a neighbour-hood restaurant promising you excellent food. The staff are focused on making sure your experience there is the best so you want to visit again and again.
• Thetford Raj (Thetford)
The Thetford Raj is another tandoori which offers an exciting range of dishes, such as Komla Dcuk, Goan Salun and Lamb Adraki. It even has its own Thetford Raj specialities. If you are vegetarian you're not left out, there are plenty of dishes to choose from and some English dishes are available too.
• Mango-T Thai Restaurant (Norwich)
Its perfect location in the city centre makes this restaurant a go-to for a Friday treat after work or a feast before a night out drinking in town. The chef behind each dish has had over 20 years experience in 5-star hotels in Bangkok, giving you the best authentic Thai flavours to taste.
