Hidden away in the depths of King's Lynn Town Hall lies the fascinating history of the town dating more than 800 years.

Stories of Lynn museum contains historic artefacts from a time when the town was one of the most important ports in the country.

Visitors can learn of the seafarers and merchants who have put King's Lynn on the map, and see one of the only treasures King John didn't manage to lose in The Wash - the King John Cup.

An exhibition in the Old Gaol Cells takes visitors back in time to where the most notorious criminals were locked up. The prison contains only four cells, but up to 50 people were put behind bars during the Victorian era and it was still in operation as recently as the 1950s.

An eery display of a skull belonging to a schoolteacher convicted of murder has been preserved from the 19th century, when Victorians believed in reading someone's character in the shape of their skull.
