People from far and wide will gather on Saturday for an ancient seasonal festival to honour the spirit of the orchard.

The free annual Wassail event takes place at the orchard on the edge of Kenninghall Wood - behind the Red Lion pub in the village - at 4.30pm for a 5pm start. It will feature morris dancers, the Shelfanger Singers, the Kenninghall drummers, the Lord of Misrule, the Spirit of the Orchard, mulled cider and apple juice, a bonfire to keep you warm and much more.

People are encouraged to bring along bells, rattles and drums to frighten away the winter blues (and the frost giants) and toast for the trees (and the birds).

Suitable footwear is recommended as it might be muddy, and torches or lanterns will help to light the scene. Dressing up is optional.

For further details, and if the weather is bad, call Anne-Marie Clark, Kenninghall Lands Trust committee member, on 01953 887424.
