A 'near-death experience' has forced a delay to a DJ's first appearance at a north Norfolk music night.

Paul Wellings, also known as DJ Madhatter, was due to play at Overstrand's Belfry Music and Arts Centre on Saturday, February 16, but had to cancel the gig after he collapsed at home before the show.

The DJ was taken to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, where he had a CT scan as well as other tests, and doctors sent him home after eight hours saying it could have been a 'vertigo attack'.

He said: 'The doctors said I was very lucky to have a soft landing on a carpet. If the attack had happened a minute later I'd have fallen down the stairs, and would have landed on concrete with fatal consequences.'

Mr Welling's first set at the centre's regular 'soul night' - hoped to be the first of many, will now take place on Saturday, April 20 at 7.30pm. He will also appear at Cromer Social Club on Sunday, February 24 at 3pm.
