I think some people are being a little unfair to the hard-pressed St Faith's Crematorium. There are several other crematoria within reasonable distance from Norwich for mourners to attend easily.

There are also other options to consider in addition, even if you do not have a local church connection.

My mother was laid to rest peacefully at the beautiful Colney Woodlands burial park (by her specific request which we were very happy to carry out) six days after her death just before Christmas a few years ago.

Having lived in north-east Scotland for 30 years, I am also qualified to comment on the excellent Moray Crematorium, which was mentioned by another correspondent.

It is under an hour from Aberdeen and many people prefer its much less impersonal setting.

Also, even very small towns and villages have their community burial grounds where anyone may buy a 'lair', and many memorial or funeral services are held not just in churches, but in community halls of all descriptions. Funerals and burials may even take place on private land.

So while there may be many similarities between Norwich and Aberdeen, there are important differences.

Flexibility helps at a very difficult time.
