On Sunday, July 16 I watched the Dereham Carnival parade as it made its way through the town's crowded streets and Market Place. I must praise the organisers, clubs and organisations that took part to make it a wonderful spectacle.
Dereham has, on occasions, received a bad press (quite rightly so) when cases relating to hooliganism, drugs and sexual attacks, have been reported.
MORE: Colourful Carnival parade brings thousands out to Dereham town centre
In recent years the townspeople of Dereham have turned out in their hundreds to support the soldiers from Robertson Barracks on their return from Afghanistan and Iraq on their parades through the town and showed their caring for the Hendry family at the funeral of our local hero, Lewis Hendry. It is at times like this when I feel proud to say 'I was born in Dereham'.
