One of the region's largest construction companies could relocate some of its group businesses to an industrial space in Attleborough.

RG Carter Group has submitted a proposal to Breckland Council to buy Victory Park, on London Road.

The Drayton-based company would pay the council £825,000 for the site, £13,800 above an independent valuation.

According to a report from the authority, the company would use the space to centralise its operations.

The report says that RG Carter Engineering, currently based in Thetford and Bury St Edmunds, would be the first business to relocate, due to the offices 'outgrowing their current locations'.

If the sale goes ahead, this would occupy half of the site, with the remaining half to be developed within 10 years.

It is thought that 70 employees would initially be based at the Attleborough centre, with this figure expected to rise to 120 by 2020.

The potential sale has been welcomed by the community. Keith Martin, a district councillor for Attleborough, said that it was 'very early days, but great nonetheless'.

'It is great news and it would be in an ideal location,' he said.

'It means that, although they are welcome to, they do not have to come right into the town centre. It is early days but it is very exciting.'

During the first meeting of the new council on May 21, when the news was announced, Michael Wassell, council leader, said that if the scheme went ahead as planned RG Carter would make links with local schools and the Attleborough community.

The authority originally bought the 7.2 acre site from Norfolk County Council in 2004.

Since then, they have received interest from companies wishing to use the site for retail space but the site has remained dormant.

The family-owned RG Carter Group was set up in 1921.

The Eastern Daily Press Top100 company's sales for 2014 were £261.4m, while its profits were £5.1m.
