Two days, two ceremonies, two receptions – and twice as much fun. Happy couple Lisa and Adam Martin enjoyed their thoroughly bespoke wedding days.

A wedding on the beach was always the dream of Lisa and Adam but they didn't want to miss out on the formalities either.

So they held the official marriage ceremony at The King's Head, Bircham, followed by a sit down three course dinner, and the next day they did it all over again with a ceremony on the beach at Wells-next-the-Sea followed by fun on the beach and a village hall evening reception with lots of dancing.

It took just six months to plan, and Lisa loved organising the perfect two day wedding and celebration.

They were lucky with the weather; the rain stopped in time for outdoor pictures at The King's Head, and the Saturday beach event was a glorious sunny day.

'I didn't think we could have the beach wedding but it all came together. We borrowed a friends' beach hut, we hired a gazebo and chairs from the Wells Carnival Committee, we had buckets of beer and wine and it all worked so well,' said Lisa.

The couple, chef Adam and pastry chef Lisa, wanted something rather very personal to them, having seen a considerable number of weddings through their work.

So, as Adam is a former pig farmer, they had a hog roast. A friend made a wedding card holder in the shape of a beach hut, beach day favours were sticks of rock, table centrepieces were created from driftwood surrounding glass holding sea lavender, sand and shells and they had a committee of helpers working to help, which included making beautiful bunting in exactly the shades they wanted.

The wedding day bouquets, made by Adam's mum, were put in water overnight and looked just as wonderful on the second day.

The couple had a formal feel to the first day, with all the men folk – including their young son Mikey – in suits, and a laid back atmosphere for the beach day, with everyone in casual clothes – apart from Lisa and her bridesmaids who were delighted to have the opportunity to wear their wedding finery again.

Brides tip: 'Get my mum involved, she was brilliant! We found organising was not about what you know but whom, we were able to keep it very local with local people involved and that made it very special to us.'
