Which rock band’s stage prop will feature at Itteringham’s cinema night?

Bure Valley Community Centre at Itteringham is the scene for a 'pop-up cinema', which hosts its second screening at 7pm on February 1.

It is the latest community triumph for a village that rallied round to save Itteringham Village Shop, which recently celebrated the 18th anniversary of its renaissance.

The first event happened late last year, with the showing of The Dry Fields - a film shot in and around Itteringham by Westminster Film School, which won a prize at the Beijing Film Festival.

More than 50 people turned out, and one of the organisers Mike Hemsley said he hope the second show - In Love With Alma Cogan, which was filmed largely at Cromer - would be even more popular.

The operation to transform the hall into a cinema will see a black, 26ft by 11ft stage cloth set up across the room. The cloth comes from Hangman scenery designers from Silvergate, near Aylsham, and was most recently used for rock band Coldplay.

The film, which stars Roger Lloyd-Pack and Niamh Cusack, will be projected onto 9ft by 16ft of photographic backdrop paper, while there will be home-made popcorn, hot dogs, sweets, ice creams and other snacks on sale.

The event, which Mr Hemsley hoped would happen at least once every two months, is to raise funds for the village shop. He said: 'It supports it throughout the year. Through the cold winter period we need our reserves.'

He added: 'We also do a pop-up restaurant, and it's about helping the shop. It's also an excuse to get everybody together, knowing they're supporting the shop but also being sociable. It's good for the community.'

He said there would be somebody going round the audience with ice creams and other snacks to 'keep the spirit of the cinema alive'.
