As the Norwich City of Ale prepares to celebrate its fifth year, a competition is being held to find a name for the new charity beer.

Five breweries which include Grain, Golden Triangle, Humpty Dumpty, Panther and S&P will join forces to make the beer to raise funds for the Hamlet Centre Trust which helps children and young adults with disabilities.

The winner, selected by a panel consisting of members from City of Ale and the Hamlet Centre, will win two VIP tickets to the official launch party on May 21 where they will be presented with a demi-pin of the ale.

Dawn Leeder, co-chairman of City of Ale, said: 'We're very pleased to be supporting the Hamlet Centre Trust this year.

'They are a well-established Norwich charity doing wonderful work with children and young adults with disabilities.

'We hope this fifth anniversary-inspired beer will generate lots of sales to raise much-needed funds for this very worthwhile cause.'

The beer, which will be made by the breweries, is described as a 4pc 'flavoursome pale ale' made with five malts and five hops.

The Hamlet Centre Trust will receive a 50p donation for every beer that is sold across the festival.

Rachel Hogg, marketing and fundraising coordinator for the Hamlet Centre Trust said: 'We are delighted that the Hamlet Centre Trust has been chosen as this year's charity and we are very grateful for City of Ale's support.

'The funds raised will go towards supporting and enriching the lives of children and young adults with disabilities and complex health needs across the trust.

'We look forward to hearing what will be chosen for the new beer and wish everybody who takes part good luck.'

Entries for the beer's name should be sent to competition@cityofale.org.uk by Friday, April 17.

This year more than 50 pubs in Norwich and 40 breweries across Norfolk are expected to take part.

The launch party will take place at the Narthex at the Cathedral of St John the Baptist on Thursday, May 21.

The evening session will start at 6.30pm and ticket details for the event will be announced by organisers shortly.

The City of Ale festival runs from May 21-31 in pubs and other venues throughout the city. For more information see cityofale.org.uk
