Auctioneers will put prices to family heirlooms and antiques to raise money for Norwich Cathedral.

A team of five experts from Keys of Aylsham will value antiques for £2 a time on Friday, June 23, in aid of the cathedral's £10m Inspiration for the Future campaign.

If people then decide to put their valuables forward for auction by Keys, the firm will also donate a percentage of its fees to the appeal.

William King, fine art valuer and auctioneer, said: “It should prove an interesting day - and raise money for a very worthwhile cause at the same time. A lot of people will turn up with family pieces and have no real idea of their value - often they are pleasantly surprised when we take a closer look.”

Visitors are invited to bring items such as paintings, toys, maps, prints, books, silver, jewellery, porcelain and ceramics, glass and furniture.

“If furniture is too large to bring to our valuation day, we are able to give a general valuation from people's photographs. We are happy to organise a home visit at a later stage to clarify our initial valuation,” Mr King added.

The cathedral event comes after a successful valuation day held by Keys Auctioneers last September at The Forum in Norwich, which raised £455 for the East Anglian air ambulance.

The Norwich Cathedral campaign has already raised more than £9.5m and is now working towards its final £1m.

Phase one of the project included building the new refectory, and phase two involves development of the hostry building, education rooms, the song school, exhibition hall and a community room.

The event will run from 10am to 3pm at the cathedral. Valuations will cost £2 per item, with a maximum of five items per person.
