Chart-topping band Travis are to play in Norwich on Thursday June 9 before headlining a major festival.

The Scottish band – famous for hits including Why Does It Always Rain On Me, Writing to Reach You and Sing – is expected to perform in front of a sell-out crowd at the University of East Anglia.

The performance was announced within hours after it was revealed the group has replaced Morrissey as the headline act at the three-day Isle of Wight Festival.

The band will play the festival on Saturday June 11 and the UEA gig could be regarded as a warm-up.

A spokeswoman for the UEA LCR said: “Travis did play at the Waterfront in Norwich when they were on their way up, but for a band of their size, who normally play festivals and larger venues, to come here is fantastic. This is a one-off performance and we expect the tickets will sell very quickly.

“The band are extremely popular and I'm sure lots of people will jump at this rare opportunity to see them live in Norwich.”
