Pasadena Roof Orchestra at The Playhouse – January 9

Jazz and swing specialists, Pasadena Roof Orchestra, have been filling dance floors for more than four decades now with their contemporary take on old standards from the 20s and 30s. With an extensive repertoire that includes American greats Irving Berlin, Cole Porter and George Gershwin, as well as British stalwarts Ray Noble and Roy Fox, this bombastic big band is sure to keep feet moving and bodies shaking well into the early hours of the morning.

Das Fenster & The Alibis at Epic Studios – January 23

Irish voodoo-rock trio, Das Fenster & The Alibis, combine quick-witted fretwork a la Specials, rumbling bass and slick wordplay to create a shimmering, jazzed-out rock 'n' roll from the tropics. Their date at Epic Studios on Magdalen Street will enflame the loins and ensnare the senses, something rare for a frosty winter night in the Mustard City.

First Aid Kit at UEA LCR – January 25

Swedish folk duo, First Aid Kit, shot to fame after their Youtube cover of Fleet Foxes' 'Tiger Mountain Peasant Song' went viral. Record deals with Wichita and Columbia followed, and the band's third album, 'Stay Gold', was released last year, reaching number 11 in the UK album charts. This January gig is a great chance to see a young, exciting artist in a smaller, intimate venue, and it could prove to be one of the last opportunities to do so.

Abdoulaye Samb & Minnijiaraby at The Bicycle Shop – January 27

The Sengalese-born blues artist, Abdoulaye Samb, has been touring Europe's festivals since 2001, and he brings his remarkable mixture of Mbalax, Afro-acoustic and rhythm and blues to fabulously mellow venue, The Bicycle Shop, on January 27. Self-taught on a multitude of different instruments, Abdoulaye has travelled extensively in Africa and Europe absorbing the cultures of each country as he went. This led him to form his own band, Minnjiaraby, fourteen years ago, and its members have been playing with him ever since.

The Commodores at St Andrew's Hall – January 29

US funk-soul legends, The Commodores, recorded some of the biggest tunes of the late 70s and early 80s and became one of the most successful crossover artists of the twentieth century. Once boasting Lionel Richie as co-lead vocalist, the four-piece formed at Tuskegee University in Alabama in 1968. Their mammoth set includes classics 'Three Times a Lady', 'Easy' and 'Brick House'. This concert at St Andrew's Hall is a chance to relive past glories and dust those sequined boots off and take them for a spin again.
