The Norfolk and Norwich Festival kicks off today and is bringing 17 days of weird and wonderful entertainment for audiences to enjoy. Arts correspondent Emma Knights looks at 10 highlights.

Norwich will be transformed into a fantastical open air opera house for the opening parade starting at Cathedral Close at 9pm tonight (May 11).

Kumkum Malhotra: A Live Story

Preti Taneja's award-winning novella set in New Delhi will be brought to life in Norwich Castle Gardens on May 12.

Mary Chapin Carpenter

The Stones in the Road singer and five-time Grammy Award winner will be taking to the Norwich Theatre Royal stage on May 17.

The Garden Party

Always a festival favourite, the free two-day event will see Chapelfield Gardens filled with quirky acts galore on May 19 and 20.

Three Cathedral Choirs

Norwich Cathedral Choir will be joined by singers from Ely and Peterborough cathedrals for a special concert at the historic city venue on May 24.

Wells beach will be the setting for a week-long art project inspired by journeys and which will culminate in shows at sunset on May 25 and 26.
