Suffolk singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran has added to his growing list of accolades by winning a prestigious honour.

The 21-year-old, who was a regular on the Norwich music circuit before getting his big break, has been recognised at today's Ivor Novello Awards.

His song A Team has won the Best Song Musically and Lyrically category at the ceremony in London.

Sheeran, from Framlingham in north Suffolk, had to beat some stiff competition, including from Adele and Florence and The Machine.

It tops an incredible 12 months for Sheeran, whose debut album + has sold millions of copies. The record has also spawned a string of top-10 singles, while he also won two Brit Awards earlier this year for Best Male Artist and Best British Breakthrough Act.

The Ivor Novello Awards - now in their 57th year - are highly prized because they are voted for by songwriters and composers.

In the past they have attracted names including Sir Paul McCartney, Johnny Marr and Stevie Winwood.

Other winners included Lana Del Rey, who is set to perform at Suffolk's Latitude Festival in July, in the Best Contemporary Song category for Video Games.

Adele's Rolling in the Deep won the award for most performed work, while she was also named Songwriter of the Year.

The album award went to PJ Harvey for Let England Shake, while Take That won an award for 'outstanding contribution to British music.'

Dire Straits' Mark Knopfler was given a lifetime achievement award and Andrew Lloyd Webber a BASCA fellowship.
