One of the most spectacular shows ever to grace Lowestoft's Marina Theatre took to the stage last night for the first of eight performances in the town.

The touring Russian Ice Stars have brought their new Cirque De Glace show to the east coast, with production staff working around the clock to build an ice rink on the Marina's stage and rig up £100,000 of lighting and equipment to allow the skaters to fly through the air.

Theatre manager Martin Halliday said: “I think this is the biggest, most spectacular production we are every going to put on in Lowestoft.

“In terms of sheer spectacle, people are not going to have seen anything like this.

“It is ice-skating, a circus and acrobatic show all in one.”

The 40-strong production has just embarked on a tour covering 34 venues in 36 weeks and will be at the Marina Theatre until Sunday.

The performers are returning to Lowestoft after their successful visit last December with their Beauty and the Beast on Ice show.
