Show-goers and businesses will be tackling mental health and wellbeing at this summer's Royal Norfolk Show.

The major event, which takes place on the edge of Norwich on June 27 and 28 and attracts tens of thousands of people, will have the theme of wellbeing.

Visitors and businesses to the annual show are being encouraged to spread public understanding about how to look after mental health.

Gardening, sport and a bike challenge will be just some of the activities taking place throughout the show to highlight the important issue.

Mark Nicholas, show and programmes director, said the wellbeing theme was about inspiring people to look after their minds and bodies.

He said: 'We have all made great strides in highlighting the importance of our mental health and wellbeing, bringing the factors that cause anxiety and depression to the forefront of the debate so that we can identify and help ourselves and others in lots of different ways.

'By making wellbeing one of the key themes for the Norfolk Show we want to continue to raise awareness of mental health and show that it can be the little things that keep ourselves both physically and mentally healthy.

'Whether it's taking time out to go for a walk, relaxing with a cup of coffee or spending time in the garden.'

Visitors to the show's new horticultural area, which will be in the shape of a tree, will be able to get gardening tips from experts.

Active Norfolk will be leading the Active Norfolk Sports Zone.

Free activities will include archery, athletics, canoeing, cycling, ladies football, rowing, rugby, sailing and tennis.

Langley Preparatory School, which is focusing on children's mental health fitness, will have a wellbeing section in its marquee.

Nutrition and wellbeing will be the focus of Langley Senior School's exhibit.

Show visitors can go head-to-head with former Norwich City player Darren Eadie and a professional rugby player on a watt bike.

Experts from Bourn Hall fertility clinic will provide advice on how to cope with stress caused by infertility.
