A proud member of the middle class elite, Hal Cruttenden is also a very funny, and very likeable comedian, and his set rounded off a great first night for the Chapelfield Park based comedy festival.

A freak downpour and brief power issues didn't dampen the crowd's enthusiasm, although Tiffany Stevenson's dour set did its best to mimic the weather and attempt to suck the warmth out of the room.

Thankfully the memory of Abandoman's improvised rap act – featuring Kelly from Ormesby and Ryan the alarm salesman, among others - was more than enough to keep spirits up with Rob Broderick's ribald and witty word play all delivered with a smattering of Irish charm.

Host David Morgan's sequin jacket was out-sparkled by his series of mini-sets linking the acts, flitting between befriending the audience and confessional comedy about his relationship and upbringing.
