ISABEL COCKAYNE
Popping down the pub is taken to extremes in Publife, performed by ProteinDance at the Corn Exchange.
Performing as part of the Bury St Edmunds Festival, five people are caught up in the alcohol-fuelled action, stripping themselves of their barriers as the night goes on and taking you on a rollercoaster of emotion.
Often saucy and aggressive, all of it is performed in a pub, with Luca Silvestrini, Bettina Strickler, Jean Abreu, Robin Dingemans and Tasha Gilmore mingling with the audience – sometimes ending up at two ends of the room and competing for your attention. So much is unexpected that when the fire alarm went off while they sang Happy Birthday to a customer with sparklers stuck in a plate of fish and chips, we didn't know whether it was part of the show. It wasn't but the five kept entertaining us.
