Breathtaking images from Norwich's Earth from the Air exhibition will be the inspiration for aspiring poets on March 31 during two free workshops.

Organised by the Science, Art and Writing (SAW) Trust and the Forum Trust, the workshops will be led by writer Tom Corbett.

He will give budding writers the opportunity to explore their own impressions of and responses to the amazing images, taken by world-renowned photographer Yann Arthus Bertrand, which are exhibited outside the Forum.

There will be a workshop at 10.30am for children aged 7-16 years, and a second workshop starting at 2pm for adults aged 17 and over.

Places are limited to 15 per session and must be booked in advance via Origins at The Forum.

In addition to the workshops, writers of all ages are being invited to enter the Science, Art and Writing (SAW) Poetry Competition 2007. Poems should be inspired by the images of the Earth exhibition.

Entries will be judged by George Szirtes, winner of the TS Eliot poetry prize 2005.

Winners will each receive the book of the Earth from the Air exhibition and will be invited to read their poem at a meeting of the Norwich Café Writers.

The closing date for entries is April 29.

Saw was created after scientist Anne Osbourn, from the John Innes Centre at Colney, was awarded a Dreamtime Fellowship by the National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts, which aims to explore ways in which science can connect with the lives and languages of ordinary people.

Prof Osbourn used her enthusiasm for inspiring schoolchildren about science to develop 'science, art and writing' projects in local schools.

To book a place at one of the workshops or to pick up a competition entry form go to Origins at the Forum or telephone 01603 727922. There will be three age categories (12 and under, 13-16 and 17 and over).
