The words Wish You Were Here have taken on a whole new meaning for one Norfolk musician.

Michael Cocksedge's ambition to organise a Pink Floyd fundraising concert has been long in the making.

But just as he was about to realise his dream of packing out his local village church hall, an unexpected problem arose.

On the night his Pink Floyd tribute band are set to play at St George's church in Methwold, another, bigger, Pink Floyd tribute band will be performing at exactly the same time 20 miles away at the King's Lynn Corn Exchange.

Mr Cocksedge is now worried that any Pink Floyd fans in Methwold could already have bought tickets for the rival event.

Mr Cocksedge, who plays bass guitar with the band Pure Floyd Show said: 'After a few years of mulling over the idea and a long drawn-out recession, I decided to organise a Pink Floyd fundraising concert in my village church.

'It has taken time to set up and we got approval from the parochial church council to make this happen.

'The problem I have, is that all the bad luck in the world has come to us, as we have just found another Pink Floyd tribute band, Think Floyd is playing at the King's Lynn Corn Exchange on the same night.

'We want to fill the church; it will take about 120 people, but we're worried with another band playing in King's Lynn on the same night, people may go there rather than to the church.'

His Pink Floyd tribute band is Norfolk-based and has eight members including his wife, Kelly, who is one of the backing singers.

Mr Cocksedge, who also works for the Ministry of Defence at RAF Lakenheath, said: 'We perform with digital sound and light, sound effects and a laser show. This will be a unique and spectacular event.

'We will be playing all the Pink Floyd classics from their albums, The Dark Side Of The Moon, The Wall and various tracks from their albums Wish You Were Here, A Momentary Lapse Of Reason and The Division Bell.

'We are a very happy band,' he said. 'All working various different jobs and most live in Norfolk.'

The Rev Ken Waters, associate priest at St George's church, confirmed that the parochial church council had given permission for the fundraising concert to go-ahead.

He said he was confident they would be able to fill the church despite the King's Lynn concert.

The money raised from the concert will be split three ways – towards a new £250,000 youth centre in Methwold, for the upkeep of St George's church, and to help promote music at Methwold primary school.
