Music from rock to folk, and a barbecue manned by three former TV cooking show contestants were among the attractions at a two-day music festival held in north Norfolk this weekend.

Now in its third year, Rock Bodham has gone from strength to strength, last year attracting nearly 1,000 people and raising £4,500 for local good causes.

'We've got more bands and we have added more things each year,' said Bodham parish councillor and festival organiser Callum Ringer. 'We have a bigger bar marquee and where we started out with a small PA, we are now hiring about £100,000-worth of equipment, so what was a Bodham event has become a north Norfolk event.'

Fourteen bands appeared on stage at the village playing fields yesterday, with young festival-goers kept entertained with a bouncy castle, face painting and circus skills workshops.

Reuniting to man the barbecue were north Norfolk Labour parliamentary candidate Denise Burke, property maintenance company owner Dave Parks and James Houlder, who works for north Norfolk News publishers Archant as a commercial manager.

Together with Sheringham funeral director Helen Wicks, the trio appeared in the Channel 4 show Come Dine With Me - memorable to viewers for its 'hair' theme, which began with a guest finding a human hair in a dish cooked up by Mr Houlder, and ended with Mrs Burke's dog leaping up to the dinner table and devouring Mr Parks' pudding.

Mrs Burke said the show, which was screened in September 2013, led to contestants forging firm friendships, with the on-screen bickering seen by viewers amounting to nothing more than 'friendly banter'.

Mr Houlder added: 'It was all very tongue-in-cheek and the comments made were taken with a pinch of salt – not to mention a couple of hairs!'

Mr Parks said the trio were delighted to be asked to run the barbecue at Rock Bodham, which provided another opportunity to meet up, at the same time as supporting local good causes.

The festival was compered by well-known local wrestler Mike Waters, who also appeared on stage as a drummer with the band Spot.

It continued today with a mini beer festival and music event at Bodham pub the Red Hart.

Proceeds from the event will this year go to the Norfolk and Waveney branch of the Cystic Fibrosis Trust in memory of local actor Gary Higgs, whose younger brother Jim performed as a soloist, and as a drummer with the group The Generals, over the weekend. Donations will also be made to the East Anglian Air Ambulance and local good causes.
