LORNA MARSH

Perennial pop superstars the Pet Shop Boys were yesterday confirmed as the latest act to take part in a glittering line-up of summer concerts at Thetford Forest.

They join pop-reggae veterans UB40, jazz singer Jamie Cullum and indie band Embrace in this year's programme of gigs at High Lodge in the forest.

The duo, comprising Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe, have become the most successful pop pairing in history and are due to perform on Friday July 21, the evening before Jamie Cullum takes the stage in the last of a series of concerts organised by the Forestry Commission.

Overall they are the fourth most successful artists of all time behind Madonna, Janet Jackson and Donna Summer in the US Billboard dance charts.

They first scored a number one hit with West End Girls 20 years ago and have since gone on to have 36 top-20 hits and 10 top-10 albums.

UB40 sold out in record time and so far is the only one of their seven forest gigs this year to have done so. Tickets are still available for Embrace and Jamie Cullum.

Tickets for the Pet Shop Boys go on sale at 9am on Friday and cost £26 plus booking fee. Call 01842 814612 or buy online at www.ticketmaster.co.uk or www.seetickets.com.
