With its Norwich connections, Jack the Giant Slayer (12A) is a film not to miss. Based on the well-known story of Jack and the Beanstalk, we follow local farm boy Jack (Nicholas Hoult) as he comes across some magic beans. When these grow he enters a world of Giants where he has to save the princess and bring her home. The film stars A-list actors, Ewan McGregor as the Valiant knight, Stanley Tucci as the princesses fiance and one of the two-headed General Fallon, Bill Nighy, and with Norwich cathedral appearing in some scenes, the local audiences are prompted to play spot the Cathedral.

Folk-rock pioneers Steeleye Span will be performing in two venues this weekend, taking to the stage at the Pavilion Theatre in Cromer on Saturday (7:30pm), and the Lowestoft Marina Theatre on Sunday (7:30pm). Since their debut in 1969 they have become one of the most influential bands in British roots music, and while members have come and gone over the years, the current line up are a whos-who of the British folk scene making this an event for die-hard folk fans. With the voice of Maddy Prior at the helm, they will be performing a number of classic hits. It is the start of Norwich Cathedral's latest music festival this weekend, and two choirs will be coming together to perform Bach's St John Passion. For the first time in years the boy and girl choristers will join together with the men of Norwich Cathedral Choir for this one off performance. With direction from the Cathedral's Master of Music, Ashley Grote, this concert marks the start of the Cathedral's Holy week and Easter. Even though it still feels like winter, There are a number of gardens opening to the public on Sunday for the start of spring. There are 20 acres of waterside gardens to enjoy at Gayton Hall near King's Lynn, where lakes, streams and bridges provide a relaxing walk around this picturesque garden. The garden is open from 12 till 5pm with a £4 admission. Hindringham Hall near Fakenham will also be displaying more than 30 varieties of daffodils against the beautiful backdrop of the Tudor manor house with is surrounds by a 13th century moat. The garden will be open from 10:30 to 4pm with admission costing £5.
