Unfortunately I have never seen any of Martin McDonagh's films, however after winning the midnight madness award at this year's Toronto International Film Festival, Seven Psychopaths is a movie that I have been anticipating for quite some time.

Although I predicted that it was going to be a good film I didn't predict a film that I would regard as one of the years finest.

Seven Psychopaths stars Colin Farrell as a struggling screenwriter who becomes involved in the Los Angeles criminal underworld after his oddball friends kidnap a gangsters beloved Shih Tzu.

Believe it or not the reason why Seven Psychopaths works so well is down to just how ridiculous it actually is. Throughout its entire duration it's just barrels of fun and although it may sound strange and rather random I actually found the plot to be rather compelling.

I believe that your overall enjoyment of this film comes down to one factor, whether you can tolerate it or not and unless your some sort of person that doesn't know how to have a good time then forget it as this movie is essentially a good time throughout its entirety.

I would also like to compliment the film on its originality as I can say I have never seen anything like it before and in a day and age where everything is recycled it's nice to see a film trying to do something different. It's incredibly well-written and a lot of the jokes hit and whilst it may not be a laugh out loud comedy I feel it all comes down to the likeability of the characters.

The acting in this film is particularly strong and the characters are all full of life and all have their own personalities. After the monstrosity that was the Total Recall remake this summer it's nice to see Colin Farrell getting back to what he does best and in this he is definitely on fine form.

As good as Woody Harrelson and Sam Rockwell are I'm going to have to hand it to Christopher Walken for I feel giving the best performance in the entire film.

However admittedly this is a rare film were every actor in the ensemble cast is truly great. You care about the characters from an audience perspective and when you feel that way about a film then you know it's good but Seven Psychopaths is a lot more than good, it's brilliant.

At times it reminded me of a Tarantino film mainly due to how wacky and zany it is but if you have the time then I highly recommend Seven Psychopaths as it is one of 2012's best films.
